What are the rules to name a baby in your country?

I know the way to name a baby changes from country to country, for example, family name coming after or before the given name(s), family name being single or double, etc.

I am curious about the specific "rules" to name a baby in different countries. If you can give some example to better understand the rules, it would be great.

Thanks.

We don't have any official rules for baby names in the USA. The standard format seems to be given (first) name-middle name-family name (surname). Of course, there are variations, like having two middle names, double first names (e.g. Mary Jane), or hyphenated family names. Some families might use two different family names -- I knew one family where the wife wanted to keep her maiden name, and they gave all of their daughters the wife's maiden name as a surname while all the boys got the father's family name.

I suspect a problem might come up if parents wanted to give their kids an unreadable name, like a name written completely in numbers, but to my knowledge there aren't even any laws against that.
Reply:We have no rules in the USA as is painfully evident in many celebrity baby names nowadays.
