My husband and I have been together 10 yrs and married for almost 6 yrs. My husband is from Russia. I am American. We disagree on baby names because he keeps wanting to do this really really Russian baby names. He hates all the baby boy names I choose. We agree on baby GIRL names because my husband thinks a SON is so huge and got to give the masculine BOY a good BOY name that's not as my husband says gay. boy can't have a gay name. Almost every single boy name on this Earth is gay to him.
We have a 4 yr old son who got a very Russian name. I would like this next baby to have a more American name.
I like the name Liam but my husband says no way to it. He says it's weird. I like the name Alexander but he says that's the name of our old dog that i killed (he bit my son too much so he was put to sleep), I mentioned the name Hayden and he said God can't you do a name with at least a Russian translation!
What can I do? If I have another boy I worry the boy wont' have a name?
My husband and I never agree on baby names?
first of all i would liek to mention that your husband is rude for using the term "gay". gay is a derogatory term offensive to a minority of people, and by saying it, it only makes you sound like a jerk, so start by telling him to use nicer language.
secondly, maybe you could try compromising, like have an american first name, and a russian middle name.
that way he still wins, because the baby gets his last name (which is russian im guessing?)
Reply:I have a friend who goes by both her first and middle names. her parents couldn't decide so they called her both. Ex: first name - Leslie Middle name - Ann They call her Leslie Ann. Most of the rest of the family and friends just pick one or the other and she answers to both.
Reply:if u live in the states, tell him to get over it. when in rome...
Reply:I'm sorry but I think you should let him name the boys. It seems he has a passion for it and you just want to do it.
Reply:Tell your arrogant, misogynistic jerk husband that even men with good solid Russian names such as Dimitri and Sergei and Ivan can be GAY. A person's sexuality is NOT dictated by their name, but rather by their body!
Ggggrrrrrr.....
EDIT: You're as narrow-minded and judgmental as your husband. I'm NOT a lesbian! I'm happily married -- to a MAN! -- and have a child. I just can't STAND asinine, ill-mannered comments! I suppose he's also a bigot??! I feel sorry for your kid.
Reply:you could name the baby after your husband. Or make your husbands name the middle name. and choose a name you like for the first name.
Reply:Make a list of all the boys names you are willing to use, and get him to pick his favourite from that list.
Reply:Give the child a Russian middle name. Or, make the Russian name the first name, but use the middle name.
Reply:Good luck with the next 18 years.
If you cannot even agree on something so small you WILL have issues all the time.
Oh and from the bottom of my heart, tell Frenchie LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT! Oh and I really hope your child is as perfect as he expects, he has a real rude awakening coming.
Reply:How about family names? you will both have to compromise.
Reply:My wife and I used this technique to pick our children's names.
We each put our top picks on a list.
Then we took turns crossing off our least favorite name on the list.
The remaining name was the one we went with.
So, if you really hate a name you get to cross it off.
Given his desire to have a name with a Russian translation, I'd look for a name I liked that did have a Russian translation...you may find one you like!
Reply:There are several very common American names that have Russian roots. For example David, Dennis, Stevan, Victor, Abram, Alexander.. they all are very common Russian names. This website has a large list of Russian names that you can look through and "Americanize"

Reply:He's not helping you carry the baby for 9 months, you should at least get to choose. I always chose 3 names and my husband picked one out of those 3. Fair enough....
Reply:how about the Samson? very masculine name and he will find a girlfriend name Delila.
Reply:This is what my boyfriend and I agreed on. For both of us, there were two names that we have wanted to name a child long before we met each other. We agreed that for the boy and a girl, it would be those names, and then after wards, he would name the girls, and I would name the boys. No arguments about them allowed. Ask to do a deal like that, and neither of you are allowed to complain.
Reply:Liams a great name. Tell him that he named your first child so now its your turn. Besides you live in America right? Well how is this child going to cope in school with a weird foreign name? Also tell him you are carrying this child, you are feeding and growing this child inside of you not him so you have every right to give whatever name you want! Lol Good luck.
Reply:If you're willing to try some Russian names, get a baby name book that breaks them down by nationality, or at least where you can skim through the names to find the Russian ones. Then go through them together. If this doesn't work, perhaps you can compromise on a name that is American but neutral sounding, such as James or Michael, and give him a Russian middle name.
