Opinions on one of my friend's baby names..?

My friend was bored and raised on Hawaii, and she's currently expecting :-) So she came up with the name Kaivett (Kye-vett). "Kai" is Hawaiian for "ocean", and he will most definately be raised on the ocean, and "vett" comes from her mother's middle name Navette. His nickname that he'll use to introduce himself, write on his papers, and be generally called by is Kai. Is this name too far out there, and what are some suggestions for middle names?

My friend is named Kai and I think it's a cool name.





Well I think anything typical (Ryan, Tom, Allen, Sean) would be a nice middle name to offset his somewhat atypical first name.
Reply:Well, I think Kai sounds like a beautiful name, and Kaivett sounds a tiny but weird, but then I'm not exactly Hawaiian!


Why don't you give him a middle name that means something like


blue, sea, waves, dolphin, whale, in hawaiian or maybe in another language. Or what about giving him a regular hawaiian name, as I take it that his first name is a mix of his mother's middle name and the hawaiian for ocean? Or maybe an english name?


Whatever you and your friend choose, I'm sure you're going to have a fantastic time with Kai!
Reply:In fact, the 'vett' should be 'ette' after Nav, and it's a feminine word for 'little one.' If your friend wants (and it may show that his name is at least partly made of her middle name) she can keep the v, but it should be Kaivet, not Kaivett. Vett is still V+ette, and if she has a son it should be vet or v+et which is masculine. If she has a girl, then Kaivett or Kaivette would be appropriate.



Reply:I really like this name, it has meaning and purpose. Whilst maintining its orginality it doesnt at all sound too far out there. Personally I would say if you are looking for originality, with name like Kaivett, any middle name you gave would detract from the specialness of the first name. Steer clear of a middle name.
Reply:Actually, I think Kai is a great male name. It does sound like a strong Hawaiian surfer and/or businessman! Sexy too!!





Kaivett on paper is very similar to Caviat. Might be confusing!!





Why not Kai Navette (middle name). Sounds handsome, creative and professional.

Reply:I really don't like it. It sounds feminine because of the "ette" suffix. Besides that, it sounds like some new Chevy model. I'm not typically a fan of "made-up" names anyway. They always sound...well, made-up. Hard to take seriously. Like when people start naming their kids Apple, Blanket, Noxema, and Wachovia. I will say though that I like the meaning behind the name.
Reply:I think its totally awesome, but for a girl...I'm really impressed with the construction of the name and how meaningful it is, plus it sounds really cool...but i'd save it for a girl...The nickname Kai works for a boy or a girl buy Kaivette is too pretty sounding to me for a boy

Reply:Kaivett is a beautiful, original name! The only thing is that is sounds very feminine. Almost like Yvette, and I know of only females named "Kai"
